(That's probably the biggest difference between GfWL and Windows 10's replacement was moving DRM back out to the various Stores and separating the concerns of anti-cheat out of it as well.) Some of the bad taste of GfWL was from that DRM and how it had to work without a proper 'Store' to back it and also how because it was built from a 'console-like' mindset mixed concerns with anti-cheat in addition to anti-piracy.

Halo 2 was old enough (and no longer an Exclusive) and I believe that it didn't get some of the worst of the developer 'Optional' DRM that Microsoft had promised developers would make PC game delivery more 'Console-like' (and was the reason some companies even bought into GfWL in the first place as a possible replacement for existing DRM solutions, but then of course as untrusting as they are and assuming something of a 'security in depth' model made things worse by using both GfWL DRM and their previous DRM/anti-cheat/anti-piracy tools for in some cases a strong worst of both worlds). In at least one way, Halo 2's implementation was partially better than many other games'.

Was the Halo 2 implementation better than every other game? Or am I missing something? I didn't have any issues with it in Halo 2, it just logged into my Xbox Live profile and I got achievements in the game and could see my Xbox friends list. Can someone explain what was so bad about it? (other than first attempting to charge for it) I only ever experienced GFWL in Halo 2 for Vista. Probably not a lot of hope because Obsidian and Bethesda both have a lot of big projects on the boards and Microsoft doesn't want to rock the boat too much and supposedly both companies still feel a bit bitter towards each other even now that they are in one happy big Xbox family. (Obsidian developed New Vegas and Bethesda just published it/licensed the IP.) Now that Microsoft owns both Obsidian and Bethesda there's actually hope again that at least 'parent company management' at Xbox Game Studios could smooth over some of the problematic relations between the two studios to do something like a New Vegas re-release. New Vegas was dead to Bethesda because of the falling out (pun intentional) between Obsidian and Bethesda.

Shame, since that would have gotten me to buy FO4. The closest thing to a remake I've heard about was a fan effort to remake New Vegas using Fallout 4, but IIRC Bethesda kiboshed the whole thing. At best, they might do a re-release like they did for the Xbox One, but it's sincerely doubtful that they'd actually do anything more than just make it run on newer consoles. The engine & many of the assets are already there, make it a DLC for fallout 76 & I'd bet a lot of people would stick around afterwards.ДЄt the risk of sounding like No Mutants Allowed, the older games are effectively dead to Bethesda/Microsoft. It would repair a lot of the reputational damage from fallout 76 & there would be plenty of people happy to pay 60$ for a tale of two wastelands. Hell, if they gave the community permissions & assets it would be done in a year, for free. Has the recent purchase by Microsoft brought some renewed interest or manpower to Fallout 3 & New Vegas? The games very much deserve a remaster. This news gives me no rational reason to hope.
